This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 11 readers from my photo files including wild skies, wildlife, and wild me.
Diane and Nigel chose #5558. A view they may have noted on their ride to or from the North Rim, but thank goodness their summer visit didn’t show snow like this late November visit from last year.
Bibi chose #3910, “part of my childhood address.” This view from Cape Royal on the North Rim could be considered part of my summer address at Grand Canyon.
Pam and John chose #6543. I’m not typically a water baby yet could listen to the waves crash for days at Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa. And who doesn’t like a sunset?
Sherry and David chose #4647. The horse-sized zebras really put the giraffe’s height in perspective. Yes, I get a lot of butt shots on safari in Kruger National Park, South Africa.
Mary Lou chose #1142. Part of the cycle of life when hanging bird feeders also feeds the predators like this Cooper’s hawk seen outside my window in Yarnell, Arizona in March 2012.
Jodee and Bill chose #5111. Hyenas have a bad reputation but look just like puppy dogs, especially when sleeping. Well, maybe not like their Tessa. Lots of animals sleep at night on the warm roads and are still napping in the morning when visitors drive out early on safari at Kruger National Park.
Sallie let “that random dot place” choose #128. While working at Mount St Helens during the early 1990s I climbed the volcano with a friend. Probably the only mountain I’ll ever climb. The views were spectacular, the photo not so much, from this point looking south, with Swift Resevoir in the upper left.
Patti chose #20. A 1970 visit for me to cousins living in LaCanada, California.
Yogi let random dot org choose #7222. Another reason to visit Grand Canyon’s North Rim, especially during monsoon. Of course the rain could make the road to Point Sublime impassable.
Shane chose #4744. It’s not easy to see an elephant’s eyes. Or to get a photo. Thank goodness for zoom. I believe this one just finished with a mud facial at Kruger National Park.
Donna chose #307, one of two in a panorama. Horseshoe Bend, one of many tight turns along the Colorado River, can be seen from a high vantage point after a short sandy walk. Located off SR89 not far south of Page, Arizona.
Tough choice for me this week as I just got back from a wonderful road trip to Grand Canyon, Glen Canyon Dam, and Lee’s Ferry with over 4000 photos to choose from. Yet this journey ended up being about the Colorado River, and life.
Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below. A big thanks to everyone for playing along with Foto Friday Fun and allowing me to share these photographs and memories.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Hi Gaelyn, I love the cousins photo: are you the gorgeous girl bending forward or the one in hotpants and boots? I love your pic of the sleeping hyena. Have a great weekend. Jo
Thanks Jo. Hotpants & boots for me.
Wow and I thought that I was the only one with that picture, I have it up in the office here and everyone asked about it too..
I just returned from Oregon on a quick visit, and stopped and visited with Dad and Stan who are meeting us at Jenny’s for Thanksgiving this year.
Well, those were the days. Can’t believe you have it in your office. We should re-create that shot someday. Hugs to everyone at Thanksgiving.
Our photo choice was very appropriate this week since we just arrived in Florida and will be on the Gulf in a week for the beautiful sunsets:) I love the giraffe and zebras. The giraffe is one big dude! That close up of the elephant is precious:)
#6372
Lucky you getting sunsets over the Gulf. Have you down for #6372.
So many great pics!! Love our little hyena, and think I would like them best when they’re sleeping. The giraffe and zebras are amazing. Nice to see the river looking so strong and healthy, Lees Ferry is such a beautiful spot. 4180 for next time please.
Thanks Jodee. Hyenas really are adorable but also really stink when they get close. I felt like moving in at Lee’s Ferry. Have you down for #4180.
I enjoyed all of your wonderful photos this week – especially your selection. Please put me down for 1111 for next week.
Thanks Mary Lou. The river mesmerized me. Have you down for #1111.
Flash back memory of short shorts and knee-high boots and mini skirts – love it! What a style we had in the 70’s!
I love the photo of the rainbow this week as well.
#30 for next week, please. Let’s see what else the 70’s brought!
Thanks. How I loved my go-go boots. Have you down for #30.
You have some great photos Gaelyn and I love the ones of your past as well. That water rushing down the Colorado River looks good, sure it is going to help.
That first photo looks very familiar other than the snow! It always amazes me after an area is wiped out by fire how quickly new growth takes over and looks so good again. I have seen it happen so many times in Africa – an area of desolation suddenly is an area of colour. 5559 for next week please. Have a great weekend Diane and Nigel
Thank you Diane. The water release from the dam is, unfortunately, only a short term fix for the river. Fire is a mixed bag, scary yet ultimately healthy for a forest. Have you down for #5559.
Ok, I love love love my photo!! Every time I see them, giraffes amaze me. As a water baby I also love the sunset. And it doesn’t get better than a rainbow over the canyon. If I could take one of those, I’d frame it. I’d like number 1777 for next time please.
Thanks Sherry, a good choice for you. Giraffes are incredible creatures. Them and a sunset over ocean would be a divine combination. I haven’t printed, or framed, a photo ever. Have you down for #1777.
I am happy with my panorama selection. Next week I choose #317
Glad you like it. Have you down for #317.
love my random choice, perfect for this pacific Northwest girl. I only wish id spent time there before 1980 and the eruption. loved the giraffe/zebra comparison shot and the elephant eye marcro. And all the scenery.
i broke my little finger yesterday — cant do capitals …pls forgive that as well as any other mistakes,
OMGosh that’s gotta’ hurt! Thanks for even bothering to type. I too wish I’d seen St Helens pre-eruption. Take care.
Great photos all but the pic of the giraffes and zebras on a road are a dream come true.
It is funny how the wildlife uses the roads as much as the cars. But, hey, why not. Easier than crashing through the bush. I advise to follow this dream.
