This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by 12 readers from my photo files including canyons and colors.
Pam wrote, “Next week I’d like to see where you were in 1968 which is the year my only child was born, so I’ll choose #68…” In Foto Friday Fun #184 I shared the only 1968 shot found with me in braces. But I did drive a 1968 Mercury Cyclone Cobra Jet in the 70s. (Photo stolen from the internet.) Fastest “girl car” in high school. The #68 from the early 1990s, as a Mt St Helens Forest Ranger a guided walk to Meta Lake provided daily changes with life returning to the blast zone like these Fireweed.
John and Pam chose #8216. Being Pam is a known dog animal whisperer she should like to see these young elephants at play, and maybe whispering to each other, in Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa taken 3-10-14. Don’t think their treats would fit in your pocket Pam.
Elaine chose #708. First time hiking Wire Pass to Buckskin Gulch back in 2009. I had driven half way in, four miles on the north end of House Rock Valley Road took half an hour, the afternoon before hiking. A surreal experience walking in a water carved slot surrounded by towering sandstone walls.
Jodee and Bill chose #849. Hard to compete with the brilliant fall colors they’ve been seeing in the east. Yet the aspen on the Kaibab put on an amazing show back in 2012.
Diane and Nigel chose #5556. This might be a view they remember from their Grand Canyon visit this summer. Taken July 2015, a close up of canyon wall topped with Junipers and Pinyons at Walhalla overlook on the North Rim.
Mary Lou chose #1229. A view of Crystal Rapid on the Colorado River seen from Point Sublime where I camped 5-31-13. The road there is rough but so worth the views. Plus back in 2011 I took video rafting through Crystal Rapid. A wild ride indeed.
Yogi chose #5000. This sunset view over the Weaver Mountains was taken 3-27-13 not far from where I currently live in Kirkland, Arizona.
Shane chose #9264. The Orange River flowed strong while I visited Augrabies Falls National Park during my 2014 visit to South Africa.
Sherry and David chose #6196. Monsoon has become my favorite time of year at Grand Canyon especially when inversion brings the magic of fog swirling around the rocky temples and buttes. Wotan’s Throne became an island as seen from the North Rim’s Cape Royal on 8-13-14.
Donna chose #287. One of three photos of not one of my best panoramas. Looking straight down on the Colorado River below Glen Canyon Dam a group of rafts prepares to float downstream on the “slow ride” to Lee’s Ferry. A trip I haven’t taken, yet.
Sallie chose #1201. It’s important to keep an eye out for the small animals while on safari in Kruger National Park, South Africa. Leopard tortoise are not known for speed when crossing the road.
Patti chose #14 to get way back in time. Other than my birth photo this is about as far back as it gets at three weeks old with my brother in April 1954 in our Hinsdale, Illinois yard. He told me he really wanted a sister, until he got one.
My choice for the week, one of several sky events including some awesome sunsets. I walked into the kitchen Wednesday afternoon and saw this sundog peaking between the trees.
Please join in next week by leaving a number between 1 and 9999 in your comment below. A big thanks to everyone for playing along with Foto Friday Fun and allowing me to share these photographs and memories.
Do you have a favorite this week?
Hi Gaelyn, I love them all but my favorite is that sweet brother of yours holding you! What a darling… Have a great day. Jo
Thanks Jo. That sweet brother grew up to be huge.
Another really great variety. Wonderful to see such vivid colors from the west – too funny that I picked a fall color shot 🙂 Although void of much color, I really love the Crystal Rapid pic. And of course one can never get enough elephants! 1138 for next week please.
You must be on fall color overload by now. Crystal Rapid was a wild ride. Have you down for #1138.
Enjoyed them all. They are all wonderful especially my choice of Crystal Rapid and your selection this week. Please put me down for 2854 for next week.
Thanks Mary Lou. Have you down for #2854.
You must have known how badly I needed a western fix:) What a terrific selection of photos we all chose this week. Love, love these. Of course I enjoy any photo with an animal:) Elephants are so darn cute:) I’d have to bring a backpack with my treats!
#9176
Hopefully you’re staying east all winter so maybe these western photos will bring you back west. That would be a huge backpack. 😉 Have you down for #9176.
We are only east through the end of Dec. Jan 1st we head back west!! We are meeting friends in Naco, AZ for a week of golf the first week of Feb. We need to have all of our windows in the MH resealed and the best place with the longest warranty is in FL. So we bit the bullet and stayed east longer this winter. Not our first choice. Can’t wait to get back west!!
All of the pictures are fabulous, as usual, but I really love the Fall, so that one and your sunset were my favorites this week.
Next week I choose #297
Thanks Donna. Fall is special. Have you down for #297.
Oh wow, so difficult to pick any favourites this week. We love them all, that swirling fog is magical as is the sun-dog. The canyon shots as always are amazing and the aspens are like molten gold. The canyon shots will now for ever bring back fabulous memories of seeing it all live with you and Bill. 5557 for next week please. Have a great weekend, Diane and Nigel
Thanks to both of you. It’s so fun to share the canyon and evoke the memories. Have you down for #5557.
My Wotan’s Throne might be my favorite but I love the sundog and the wonderful elephants shot, Crystal Rapid, sunset over Weaver Mountains and that on her tip toes Leopard Tortoise. You and your brother are too cute! It’s impossible to choose, you take such beautiful pictures. I’d like #8000 for next week please.
Thanks Sherry. Have you down for #8000.
Here I am commenting through Internet Explorer, since Chrome won’t let me! I love the last three photos…I’m a turtle lover, and the one of you as a baby, aww….. Intense sky in the last one.
Put me down please for # 1142, the time now as I type.
Welcome back and thanks for making the IE sacrifice. Have you down for #1142.
Ha! I love, love, love, your baby photo and what your brother had to say. When I was born my brother announced to my sisters that he hoped they were satisfied, it’s another girl! My brother was the oldest of 6 kids and the only boy, and he was 15 when I was born. Poor guy! 🙂
Let’s see, let’s just go up by 1 for next week, so #15.
Wow, your brother was so lucky to have you sisters. Let’s see what you get next week with #15.
“Fastest girl car in high school.” Love that.
The elephants are so red, is that from mud? Great shots, as always. Cool tortoise.
#5471 for me this week, please.
Thanks Shane. Yes these elephants had been playing in muddy water. Sometimes that’s gray, sometimes red. Have you down for #5471.
Love the sundog! And the views from Point Sublime — what a miracle to camp there! (Thanks for sharing those special places where we’d never ever make it)….
And I adore my tortoise — it’s actually perfect for me this weekend — because that’s kind of the way I feel … poky and bogged down. I hope people will watch out for me )))
Every kind of rainbow is a special gift. Glad you liked “your” tortoise. I too have been feeling a little slow this week.
I like them all. I do think it would be a thrill to see elephants in the wild.
I am back to random dot org and they said 9663.
I could watch elephants for the rest of my life. So if you think of a way I can get paid to do that let me know. Have you down for #9663.
