This week’s Foto Friday Fun features images chosen by nine readers from my photo files including South African wildlife and scenes from Grand Canyon.
Mary Lou chose #7379. A not very good shot of a Red Hartebeest in Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa on 3-16-14. So many species of animals to see while on safari.
Ann and Bill chose #3250. This time a warthog seen in Addo Elephant National Park the previous year’s visit.
Bibi chose #1734. From her visit to the North Rim during June 2014 we also visited Zion National Park and saw several desert bighorn sheep. What a thrill!
Barb chose #814, “month and day of our wedding anniversary.” No weddings or anniversary for me, but this is a boyfriend from the past (some of you may remember Mike) hiking in Buckskin Gulch slot canyon in the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, Utah 10-22-11. So amazing to have these canyon walls towering above.
Sherry and David chose #9267. They both love water so should appreciate this shot of the Orange River in Augrabies Falls National Park, South Africa taken 3-25-14. The flow was tremendous and the water fall was booming.
John and Pam chose #1034. When wintering in Yarnell, Arizona I often walked into the Weaver Mountains right out my door. Sure was surprised to find this swing with nothing else around in February 2012.
Diane and Nigel chose #6668. The yellow footprints mark the bouldery trail to the waterfall in Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa taken 2-28-14. An amazing hike but not for the feint hearted.
Patti chose #3542. Not all wildlife seen on safari is huge but I like to see the big and small like this Kite Spider at Addo Elephant National Park, South Africa during the 2013 visit. Hope there’s no achrophobes in this crowd.
Donna chose #237, one shot in a panorama. She’s seen the Bright Angel trail’s switchbacks on the Devil’s Corkscrew and now for the upper Jacob’s Ladder. Both grueling. This was from my first rim to rim hike across Grand Canyon in 2008.
My choice from a crazy sky night on September 2nd. After dinner I drove to the Lodge for the evening program and through the trees an intense double rainbow disappeared into Roaring Springs Canyon but there was no place to pull over. By the time I parked it was fading away yet mammatus clouds hung low. Then I watched a spectacular sunset and a slip of the moon. By 10pm when I returned to the parking lot the sky had cleared, the stars were incredible (no photos), and the big dipper looked huge. Once again, Rangers get paid in sunsets. Rainbows are like overtime.

Do you have a favorite this week?
Still having problems with readers being able to comment. Seems mostly from Chrome but now from Firefox as well. I don’t know how to fix it. Any suggestions are welcome. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Enjoyed all the photos- my favorites are the slot canyon and your selections. Please put me down for 1699 for next week.
Thanks Mary Lou. That night the sky put on quite a show. Have you down for #1699.
I so enjoy getting to know the very different animals of South Africa. So many very unusual looking animals…love them:) Our photo is perfect! How cool to find the swing seat:) Love your sunset photos:)
#9331
Thanks Pam. The swing’s seat looked a little old and rotten so I didn’t sit there. Have you down for #9331.
Can’t imagine hauling that swing up to the rocks, but might be a nice place to take in the desert views! Spiders are so amazing, love that kite with her complicated web. Glad to be connected again and able to choose a number for next week – 3401 please.
The closest road was at least 200 yards away. What a chore. I do like to watch spiders, outside the house. Welcome back to the cyber world. Have you down for #3401.
Love the swing. And, the slot canyon. We hope to head that way in a couple of weeks.
Let me know if you come up to the North Rim.
So many favorites from this week. I’m glad you took the grueling hike so you could take the amazing pictures.
Next week: #247
I was an amazing grueling hike. Glad I did it when I could. Have you down for #247.
Of all people… I chose a spider photo. Eeekk! I am not a fan of anything that creeps, crawls, slithers, buzzes… you get the idea.
I need to pick me a pretty picture for next week, so let’s thy 5691. And, if it’s a spider, just skip it! 🙂
Sorry about the scare Patti. Will try for something prettier next week with #5691.
6669 for next week before it slips my mind please!! We both love Tsitsikamma, but think we have made our Holiday next year far too short and we will not have time to get there again 🙁
Wow Gaelyn, those sunsets are just out of this world. I have no idea what settings you used but you could not have improved on them. I just cannot get rid of a glare on a setting sun like that. All my sunsets that are any good the sun has vanished behind something. Have a great weekend, all the best to Bill, Diane and Nigel.
For some reason your comment(s) went to spam and I just found them. Have you down for #6669.
That is interesting!! Glad you found it after all. Diane
This is Karen from Fabgrandma.com testing the comments. love the baby longhorn sheep. so cute. I’ll pick #1952 for the year I was born.
Great photos as usual. I marvel at all the critter photos you have.
My number, if I am not too late. is 9989 this week in honor of me and Heather’s anniversary.
Thank you Yogi. I took 1000s of photos while on safari in South Africa. Have you down for #9989. You two make such a handsome couple. Well, at least Heather. 😉
