This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 7 images chosen by readers from my photo archives. Our meme number for this week is 2607. Please link in any day this week by digging into your archives and sharing a photo and story on your blog. Plus check out the other posts linked to the Foto Friday Fun meme.
Elaine chose #2607 which is one of two in a panoramic shot of the entrance to the De Oude Meul, or Old Mill, Lodge where I stayed for a night in Outdshoorn, South Africa in 2013. They raise ostriches, like many others in the area, and have a few other wild animals I didn’t see other than a very out of place reindeer.
Yogi forgot a number this week so I took the liberty of giving him #49 for the number of words in his comment. He did just have a birthday and is getting old and forgetful. But there’s no way he’s as old as these artifacts seen at Step House when I worked in Mesa Verde National Park. Of course it’s illegal to remove anything from our parks but visitors tend to find and stack artifacts in one place for the enjoyment of others.
Shane chose #6228 which transports me back to the sound of crashing waves at Tsitsikamma National Park, South Africa. Have visited this park several times and would happily return again and again.
Diane chose #0073 and is still waiting for James Bond to show up in one of my photos. I don’t think James was around back in 1956 when this shot was taken of a 2-year old me beside what looks like a Chevy Nomad.
Sherry chose #7847, a rather subtle sunset shot taken from my RV in Yarnell, Arizona.
Sallie chose #1963, the year one of her many children were born. As a traveler, I am equally enthralled by what’s behind me as well as what’s ahead. This shot taken during Fall 2011 shows the North Rim entrance station and the golden Quaking Aspen.
My choice this week was a toughie because I haven’t been any place new in over a week. But I am dreaming of my return to the North Rim next week where this will once again be my daily view. I’m sure to be sharing a lot more of those photos.

Do you have a favorite from this week?
Nice variety of photos this week! Amazing how many old photos were posed in front of a car–I have several of those too. I’ll chose 232 for my number next week.
Thanks Elaine. My Dad was in the car business and very proud of each one he ever owned. Have you down for #232.
“… visitors tend to find and stack artifacts in one place for the enjoyment of others.”
I find that almost as bad as taking them out of the Park. An artifact should be left in situ in my opinion because where it WAS may be more important that what it IS.
The corn cobs in your picture are a good examples I think. They are just corn cobs when there are shown in that way but when in situ they would have a story. Were they found together? What other evidence of past human life was there where it/they were found? Oh, so many questions!
You are right Ed. As a Ranger at Mesa Verde, and now at Grand Canyon, I talk about how moving artifacts changes their story.
Dads and cars. Somehow my dad didn’t pass the whole love of cars thing on to me. I did get his love for road trips, though. We took a lot of vacations when I was a kid but only flew once and that was to Hawaii.
#7045 for me this week, please.
My Dad taught me a lot about cars. Have you down for #7045.
I love adorable 2-year-old you in 1956, the year I was born. And I like the rear view mirror photo, always fun to look back just a bit. Sometimes when I manage to successful descend a difficult downhill on the trail I look back and say, HA! I did it!
Thanks Patti. It’s good to look back and you should be proud that you did it.
James was created in 1953 so yes he was around when that photo was taken, though I cannot see him there 🙂 I love these old family photos. Great series of photos and I love the one taken in the mirror. 0074 for next week please. have a great weekend Diane
OK, we’ll just have to keep looking for him. I didn’t know James was older than I am, if only by a year. I’m glad to have at least a few of the old photos. Have you down for #0074.
My favorite this week is the crashing waves in South Africa. What a beautiful shot. It is so refreshing to hear about tourists who do the right thing by leaving artifacts for others to enjoy. You were a big girl for 2 in that picture. I’d have guessed you at nearly 4 there. Love those great old pictures. Can’t believe you’ll be back at the canyon next week.
I’m glad the artifacts aren’t stolen but they really shouldn’t be moved at all, just observed. Funny, for such a short gal, I was the 3rd tallest in my 8th grade graduation. Then I just stopped growing. Up anyways. You can probably relate.
I’m excited about returning to the canyon.
No number this week?
So I tried to leave a image but just left my last post on my blog—not what I wanted. What the HECK!
I thought that the Snow Goose silhouette looked like a person also.
anyway delete my entry if you can and I will try to figure out what I am doing.

Dang, since you had to come up for a number for me means that you will have to take care of me as I continue into my dotage.
I love all your pic but really really love the last with the canyon and the mountain so far in the distance. I miss being able to see so far like that.
My number next week is 1977 which is the year I left the West and moved to Texas (no Texas in my mind is not the west, it is Texas, a thing onto itself. Take that however you want.
NO, no, no. That’s Heather’s job.
You really need to head west ole man.
Have you down for #1977.
Really like all the photos, but especially the subtle sunset and the two-year-old you. Next week I’ll have #20:48, the time it is right now as I type this, using the ‘other’ way to tell time.
Thanks. I have a hard time with military time. 😉 Have you down for #2048.
There were signs at all the Alaska parks asking peeps not to move or touch the artifacts.
I often try to take pictures out of the rear-view mirror but they’ve never turned out as well as ‘my’ pic here. Enjoyed all the choices as usual; I love the scanned photos you show sometimes.
I need a new # theme. I guess I’ll just be a middle-of-the-roader since I can’t make up my mind and take 4999.
I looked at all my pictures thinking about your meme here and all of mine… all of them …. start with P100. So would P1002607 be a picture to enter into today’s for example? (It was a lousy picture, so I wouldn’t, but for future ref?
All protected areas with artifacts post signs. But then, as a visitor told me, “only 10% of people read signs.”
I’ve had no luck with rear-view mirror shots, but those side mirrors are fun.
If that’s your numbering system, bring it on. It’s all about sharing the stories.
Have you down for #4999.
