This week’s Foto Friday Fun features 7 images chosen by readers out of my photo archives. Of course these are all from my current journey through South Africa as that’s all I have on the replacement computer. By next Friday I’ll be back in Arizona for one full day so you should start seeing photos from other places after that. Then in just a couple more weeks I’ll be back at the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park.
Jo chose #199 and last week her favorites were the “ellie pics.” She again gets “ellies” this time from Addo Elephant National Park where there’s LOTS of elephants. These two young adults have turned their backs on the three youngsters who are playing in the grasses. They were rolling all over and having a wonderful time.
Yogi chose #998 which features a statue at the Twee Riviern gate into Kgalagadi National Park of two Gemsbok running plus a bonus LBJ sitting on one of their horns. (LBJ = Little Brown Job when birders can’t identify a small brown bird.)
Bibi chose #44, “That’s in how many days I leave for the US, and then some more to you.” She’s working on a plan to visit me at the Grand Canyon this summer and I’m really looking forward to meeting her. Sure hope I don’t scare her with this fierce look. It’s rare to be able to leave your vehicle when visiting Addo Elephant National Park, or any game park for that matter, and when you can it’s very important to beware of lions.
Sherry chose #127. I think she’d have liked this Augrabies flat lizard. These colorful males were all over the rocks and decks at Augrabies Falls National Park and so were the rather dull brown females. I took almost as many photos of them as the falls themselves.
Diane also chose #998 which features two giraffes, one big and one little and kind of hiding. I love when rounding a corner on the road to see animals ambling along as then I can actually see their entire bodies including their feet which are usually hidden in the grass. This was taken at Kruger National Park.
Sallie chose #6 or 66 or 666 because it “has always been my favorite number and I’m not afraid of it in spite of Yogi.” Yogi is always choosing #666. But there’s nothing to be afraid of at Augrabies Falls National Park as long as you stay on the boardwalk trails and decks to view the thundering falls. Well, unless you’re afraid of heights.
MaryBeth chose #52 which features two kudu from Addo Elephant National Park. These are females, see they have no horns. To see the difference check out this post.
My choice this week is the best sighting so far at Pilanesburg Game Reserve where Joan and I are staying until April 6th. We watched this male leopard lounging in the tree for quite a while and then it appeared to be watching something on the ground rather intently before laying back down to take a cat nap.
Thank you for joining in Foto Friday Fun where readers choose a number from my archives and I share the corresponding photo and a story. Seems you like this series so I’ll try to keep it going into its second year. To join in the fun for next week leave a number between 3477 and 9997 in a comment and maybe see your chosen image next week.
Do you have a favorite from this week?
Look for other photos posted on Geogypsy Facebook page not usually seen here.
I missed last week’s Foto Friday Fun. Don’t know why. Always nice to see game pictures and love the one of you at the “lion”: sign in Addo. Stunning Augrabies Falls shot. Wish I could see it in flood like this.
So throwing a number in the mix for next week. 7531 – random as it comes with a bit of a pattern in.
Augrabies is a must see but I think best in flood conditions. Have you down for #7531.
Well I just love the Gemsbok and the Leopard shots best today.
I’ll defer to Sally on 666 if she wants it. What will you do if you get two people picking the same number?
I’m picking 6666 this week because I’m feeling especially evil.
Frequently two people pick the same number so I find two photos. Have you down for #6666, you evil one. 😉
Oh the leopard gazing downwards from his perch, is definitely my fave! I choose 3477 as the first in the series for next week. May you have a safe trip home, Gaelyn. SA is all the poorer for your leaving. Hope to see you in your next visit out! (((Hugs))) Jo
The leopard was certainly a special sighting. Only 4 days left and although I hate to leave I am more than ready to sleep in my own bed. Hope we coincide a visit next time. Have you down for #3477.
OK that’s it. Every single one of these pictures is outstanding. The colors on that lizard of mine are unbelievable. He looks like you just painted him up. At some point in my life I want to go with you as my guide and see exactly this. You sure have two wonderful worlds that you live in. I’ll take 5005 for next week. Now that I have an internet connection again I’m off to go back and see yesterday’s post.
I would love to guide you around South Africa but I must warn you, everything I know I learned from Joan who makes the most awesome guide. Only 4 days left here and although I’m not anxious to leave I WANT to sleep in my own bed. Plus I return to the canyon the 28th. Hope to meet you there this summer. Have you down for #5005.
Love the giraffes, but as leopards are my favourite wild animal I have to also say the best photo is the last one. Who is going to miss who most between you and Joan? I can still keep up with Africa through Joan’s blogs but it will be good to follow you back at the Grand Canyon again. All the 4’s for next week 4444 please. Have a safe trip home and take care. Diane
We are definitely going to miss each other and have stated so. It’s been a great trip together. I’m sure you’ll see more posts about SA from me as I’m no where near caught up. But it will be nice to share the canyon again also. Fly out Tuesday evening. Have you down for #4444.
Oh boy! I have no favorite this time—I like them all. thanks for the Kudu. Majestic horns on the males. The Leopard in the tree is wonderful. MB
#9997 is majestic too.
The Kudu are majestic, especially the males’ mighty horns. Have you down for #9997.
They all good photos, but I have to love MY lion/Gaelyn photo best, ha, ha.
I’ll take 8888, because someone took the one I was going to. (4444)
That was a fun shot. Have you down for #8888.
In awe. Even harder than usual to pick a favorite this week. I’d climb the falls there in “my” picture, given the chance. They are beautiful. (I do hope Yogi knows I was joking with him about the number 66). Loving all the animals and have to say that the big cat up in that tree is my favorite, because I can only imagine how wonderful it would be to actually see that. Your fierce look with that sign is pretty funny… I see no lions there, so I guess it scared them away. Fortunately.
Safe travels. Thanks for all the wonderful shares.
The leopard seen in Pilanesberg was the highlight sighting there. Yogi is such a jokester, he knows you’re kidding him, as I often do. Being I don’t see you picking a different number I’m putting you down for #66 for next week.
Best shot is the Augrabies lizard and the magnificent Falls. What a terrific sigh and sound that was and an experience I will not easily forget.
