Ancient sand dunes revealed by erosion tower over Zion Canyon from South Campground in Zion National Park. First designated as a National Monument in 1909 then ten years later established as a National Park.
Have you visited Zion National Park or any of the other parks in southern Utah?
Nice sunset with a colorful thunderhead.
Thanks.
Great sunset photo from the majestic Zion! I love the golden glow.
We’ve been to Zion quite a few times. It’s always a special experience.
Thanks Janie. I so enjoy looking up at the canyon walls without having to hike down first like at Grand Canyon. I’ll bet the western area of Kolob is great for riding.
Hi Gaelyn,
We came in the east entrance, through the tunnel, with a 34-foot motorhome, a tow car, and three guests from Germany, back in ’89. We were on a 2-1/2 week trip to show them as many western parks as we could fit into that time. It’s a beautiful park. I never knew it was a monument for ten years before being designated a park, though. Very interesting. We’re looking forward to more visits, starting in early summer of 2015. It will be a long year and a half until then!
Stay well and travel safe!
I love the tunnels, but not with a huge rig or towing. Must have been a blast for you and your foreign guests.
One of my absolute favorite parks! A real gem. Stunning sky.
Beautiful .. we have visited all the Utah National Parks….and Zion is our favorite. Can’t exactly say why … we really loved them all, but there is just something special about Zion. Maybe because I remember skies like this one.
Zion is a beauty but for me my favorite is usually the park I’m at.
What a stunning picture that is Gaelyn. Zion is absolutely one of my favorites too. I love that they have the buses to keep most of the cars off the roads.
Zion’s shuttle system is so convenient. Would love to see more of that in other parks where possible.
Gorgeous picture~
Beautiful, great shot. Hope your week is a good one. Diane
I have seen quite a bit of Utah, a lot of southern Utah on a bicycle. Entered Zion through the the tunnels from the east in the back of a pickup with my bicycle. However, got to ride back out from the west in a small group with a ranger in a truck behind us providing light so we could ride through the tunnels. Have also been to Bryce,Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, Capital Reef, Cedar Breaks National Monument, Dinosaur National Monument & Four Corners Monument. Also, Monument Valley although it is neither a Monument nor a National Park plus Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area.
Riding a bike through the tunnels would be really cool, with an escort. Utah does offer some awesome park opportunities.
That is still a place I need to visit. I hope to make it up there this year. So we shall see:)
Perfect to visit from the North Rim. 😉
