01 Grotto Beach Hermanus Western Cape ZA (1024x740)

After exploring the whale museum and shopping for my birthday until I knew I’d better stop I drove out of town a short ways and found a sign pointing toward Grotto Beach.

It was so peaceful to walk along the beach, very few others around.

Listening to the waves, smelling the sea, feeling a breeze, looking at life and gathering shells.04 Grotto Beach Hermanus Western Cape ZA (1024x611)

I’ve always considered birthdays to be special, a day to do whatever you choose. Definitely not work. I once had to quit a job  to get my birthday off, after a two week notice of course. Nice that I work summers now so I don’t have to do that again.05 Grotto Beach Hermanus Western Cape ZA (1024x768)

I returned to Anchors Rest via a grocery store where I bought dinner and sweet treats. Then walked to the coast trail and watched the sun set over Walker Bay.

My journey was way too quickly coming to an end and the next day I’d be heading to the Cape of Good Hope.

  1. Pretty photos, Gaelyn! Love the Grotto beach, looks like your have it all to yourself.

  2. In the last photo, the clouds seem to be bursting out of the mountain peak!

    SKY SEARCHER

A woman who searched the night sky
Discovered a star way up high
    That twinkled and glowed
    And lit up the road
So now she can see where things lie!

  3. Beautiful sky, beautiful beach, how nice that you could have it to yourself although it probably would have been nice to share it with Mike.

  4. I enjoyed this segment of your trip. As much as I love mountains, I still love the ocean, too. This looked like a nice beach to visit.

  5. It does look like a wondeful beach. So much fun to explore and enjoy by ones-self.
Cape of Good Hope–how exciting. MB

  6. It looks wonderful, just you and the sea and sky. There are not many places where you can get a beach all to yourself other than a few seagulls. Diane

  7. Grotto Beach looks great!
    My kind of beach.

    Beautiful photos, too!

    Have a great weekend!

  8. The beach is beautiful, and it's amazing that no one else seems to be out there.
Glad you had such a great walk on your birthday.

  9. Beautiful skies and a beach – what more could you want!

  10. That is the way I like my birthdays too. To be by the sea and walk in peace enjoying the elements.

Next week we have two days at the seaside. I hope to get some fishing in whether I catch anything or not. My poor Prof has cabin fever, he needs a change. I hope I can sneak some sunrise time to myself while we are there.

Thank you for being a true friend and visiting. I so need it. It is going to be a long haul for me. I never envisaged I would have to manage a menage a trois with Alzheimer's in the equation. Somehow I hope to muddle through.

Thanks again for understanding that sometimes I cannot rise to leaving a comment.
